We live and learn.... blade after blade, the Bodark tree devoured chainsaw blades, resisting vehemently, the emergence of one Pelican!
This beautiful tree was destroyed by carpenter ants. The trunk was unearthed and then re-planted at the water's edge (thank goodness for the invention of the Bobcat!)
As my first venture into chainsaw sculpting, this was initially quite intimidating. Once you get to understand your medium and your tools however, you become more confident.
It is wise though to never become too 'confident' when using a chainsaw!!
Once complete, the trunk was coated with engine oil to prevent cracking as well as to destroy any bug-life in the wood.
After 3 or 4 coats over several weeks, the piece was then sealed using polyurethene.
